Abstract. We proposed a mathematical model of tree growth under light competition. Analytical and numerical study of the model is done. The model showed that at low light, values of the self-shadowing and photosynthesis rate parameters determine the different responses of species to light condition change. It leads to the formation of specific competitive relations in the plant community.
